Neuromuscular Dentistry

Neuro-what? It may be a mouthful, but neuromuscular dentistry (also known as TMJ therapy) helps relieve headaches, tight facial muscles, and bad bites by correcting the position of your jaw. Read on to see if it’s right for your mouth!

What to Expect

30-45 MINUTES

CONSULTATION

You’ll start your appointment with a consultation and a few tests to see if your jaw is out of alignment, making clicking noises, or causing acute pain.

YOU MIGHT BE A CANDIDATE IF YOU EXPERIENCE

  • pain in your jaw
  • jaw clicking noises
  • frequent headaches
  • neck and back issues
  • facial muscle tightness or swelling
  • grinding teeth (bruxism)

COMPUTERIZED TESTS

To diagnose the source of your jaw pain, we’ll use specialized technology. Here are a few tests we might perform to find the root of your jaw pain:

  • Phonetic Bite – Taking record of the jaw in motion while speaking
  • Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (otherwise known as “TENS”) – relieves muscle spasms using electromagnetics

Once tests are completed, we might recommend a joint splint, night guard, oral surgery, muscle relaxants, day guard or full mouth reconstruction.
