Dental Implants

Dental Implants are the most innovative way to replace missing teeth. Dental implants offer a functional and natural looking solution to tooth loss.

A Dental implant is essentially a surgical titanium post that replaces the root portion of a tooth.  When the implant has healed a replacement tooth is fabricated. Together the implant and replacement tooth will restore function to your bite and return your smile to normal.

Implants can replace a single tooth, a quadrant or full arch.  They can also be used to support dentures. Implants are proving to be more sustainable and predictable than a root canal, bridge or denture and Dr. Albert Lui and his associates have 10+ years of experience in placing dental implants.

WHAT MAKES YOU A CANDIDATE FOR A DENTAL IMPLANT?

The good news if that most people are good candidates for dental implants because there are few medical conditions that prevent the placement of dental implants.

You could be a candidate of you have:

  • Good health
  • Healthy gums
  • Enough bone in your jaw
  • The ability to care for your new implant with regular flossing and brushing

TYPES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS

  • Bone Graft – Bone grafts rebuild lost bone mass so dental implants can be placed
  • PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) – PRF is placed in the surgical site to enhance dental implant healing
  • Sinus Lift – We add bone to your upper jaw before building a dental implant
  • Implant Crowns – Placed over a tooth being restored when fillings can’t do the job
  • Implant Locators – Special fixed anchors for more secure dentures

Bone Grafts

A bone graft is needed when there is not sufficient bone to place the implant.  The bone could be too thin or too soft on its own to place the implant. If the bone cannot support the implant, it can cause the implant to fail.   You may need a graft in a single site or a full ridge reconstruction or possibly a sinus lift and bone graft.

PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin)

Before the procedure, Dr. Lui will draw some blood and place it into the centrifuge.  The centrifuge will separate the platelet rich fibrin form the rest. The fibrin is removed and prepared for use.

PRF is placed in the surgical site to enhance healing.  It can be used in the extraction site to reduce bone loss.  PRF can aid during Ridge Regeneration and Sinus Llifts.

What to Expect

MULTIPLE VISITS — CASE DEPENDENT

You will be welcomed to our office with a complimentary consultation.  At this appointment we’ll talk about your general oral health and dental concerns and your options.

A CBCT Scan is always required to confirm bone levels, possible trouble spots and to confirm your treatment options. We’ll book you in for a second consult to review the scan and help you choose the right treatment.

The day of the procedure, local anesthetic is administered to the site and the implant(s) are carefully placed into the bone.  We offer sedation if you’re anxious. Every case is different but generally implants will need approximately 3-6 months to fuse to the bone.  This process is called osseo-integration.

Patients are booked for a post operative appointment.  At this appointment, one of our dentists at Dr. Lui & Associates will check the site, make sure there are no concerns and remove any stitches, if placed. When the implant has integrated, impressions will be taken, sent to our laboratory and the final restoration fabricated.  About 2 weeks later, the final restoration is put in place and a final x-ray is taken to make sure there aren’t any gaps for proper placement and you will be shown how to care and clean the site.
